Culled from Vanguard LAGOS — The Ogun State Police Command, Sunday, said it has arrested one Dr. Babawale Joshua who owned Ajike Medical Centre at 11, Adeyemi Street, Saka, Sango Ota, for suspected ritual activities and disrespect to the corpse of a 13-month-old baby who died in his hospital, Saturday. According the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, for the state, Mr Muyiwa Ogunjobi, the police discovered that the boy’s corpse was mutilated. He told Vanguard that the eyes, tongue, two lips, two ears, private part, nails and the left hand and veins were cut off at the hospital.

Three suspected fraudsters specialising in defrauding unsuspecting oil dealers in Lagos have been paraded by the Lagos State Police Command. The suspects, Clement Aladay Enenche, Lawrence Audu Oduh and Mike Edache Enenche were arrested by the police after a long trail, having being in their wanted list since 2012. The other suspect, Emmanuel Amakre is still at large. The suspected fraudsters who claimed to be dealing in petroleum products had succeeded in defrauding several innocent people of over N75million. Their mode of operation was to source for products, especially, diesel and petrol from unsuspecting marketer, then bargain on a price and issue the victim a dud cheque.

SHAH ALAM: Two security guards have been jailed for causing the death of a Nigerian who allegedly cheated them. The High Court here sentenced T. Kumar, 29, to seven years in jail for causing the death of 27-year-old student Nwabudike Emmanuel Chukwma, while V. Ganesan, 29, was sentenced to one year in jail for causing hurt to the deceased. They were initially charged with murder but pleaded guilty to reduced charges after their defence sent a representation to the Attorney-General's Chambers. Justice Noor Azian Shaari said nobody had the right to take another person's life despite the other person's wrongdoing.

Israeli and Syrian forces have exchanged fire across the ceasefire line in the occupied Golan Heights. Israel returned fire after one of its military vehicles was hit by shots from Syria, Israel's defence forces say. Media reports say no-one was hurt. Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board is to scrap the Paper Pencil Test in 2015. The JAMB Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. ’Dibu Ojerinde, stated this in an interview with our correspondent on Saturday, after supervising the maiden Computer Based Testing for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Ojerinde, who said he was happy with the outcome of the CBT, added that other forms of examination would be scrapped by 2015. He said, “We are thinking of 2015. By 2015 registration, we will be asking candidates to go fully into Computer Based Testing but that again depends on availability of centres.

Eket (Akwa Ibom) - The price of gari has recorded more than 50 per cent increase in Eket area of Akwa Ibom, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. Other items that also went up in the area, survey revealed, were the prices of other foodstuffs, including rice and fish. The survey showed that a cup of gari, which sold at N30 between February and April, now sells at N70, while the cost of six cups of the commodity has risen from N100 to N200 at various markets in Eket and its environ. Similarly, the current price of a bag of the staple food item is N14,000 as against N8,500 sold between February and April.

19 MAY 2013 Up to 60 people were injured when a car drove into a parade in a small Virginia mountain town. Witnesses immediately ran over to lift up the 1997 Cadillac to help free a woman trapped underneath it. Three of those hurt were airlifted to hospital by helicopter. Another 12 to 15 were taken by ambulance and the rest were treated at the scene by paramedics. Washington County director of emergency management Pokey Harris said no fatalities had been reported and that the injuries ranged from critical to superficial. Witnesses described the driver of the car as an elderly man and said the vehicle had a disabled parking sticker on it.

19 MAY 2013 A car bomb exploded on Saturday in a northern district of the Syrian capital killing at least three people and wounding five others, state television reported. The state broadcaster said the bomb was placed in a car in the Rokn Eddin neighbourhood and that a bomb disposal team was defusing another device.

19 MAY 2013 A Chinese trade delegation on a visit to Cross River state has made known its intention to open a truck manufacturing plant within Calabar Free Trade Zone. Leader of the group and Deputy Mayor of Chang Chun City, China; Mr. Gui Guangli, disclosed this to Governor of Cross River; Liyel Imoke, during a visit to his office in Calabar, the state capital.

The donor,Victoria Hiley who is 35 years old donates 30 fluid ounces of her bosom milk for the manufacture of Baby Gaga which can serve fifty people at a stand. \ The company makes it known that they are looking for more donors at a price of €15 for every ten ounces supplied using bosom pump machine. \ The recipé of the ice-cream blends with Madagascan vanilla nuts and lemon zest which is then churned into the sweetened Baby Gaga Icecream. 

President Hollande signs bill into law after Constitutional Council dismisses legal challenge by opposition party. French President Francois Hollande has signed a gay marriage and adoption bill into law, a day after the country's Constitutional Council threw out a legal challenge by the conservative opposition. Hollande, trying to turn the page on months of bitter opposition to the measures, said it was "time to respect the law and the Republic". The Constitutional Council approved the bill on Friday, which was also the International Day Against Homophobia.
