Wife, daughter of Supreme Court Justice kidnapped

The family of a Supreme Court Judge, Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, was thrown into panic and fear on Friday night following the reported kidnap of the judge’s wife, daughter and driver on their way to Benin City, Edo State capital.
It was learnt that the kidnapped members of the family were travelling down to the southern part of the country for the planned wedding of one of the Judge’s daughters.
While this fact could not be confirmed as at the time of filing this report, it was not known also whether the kidnapped daughter is the one wedding.
Confirming the incident, however, spokesman of the Edo State
Police Command, DSP Moses Eguavoen, said the police command had received some calls from members of the public informing it of the incident.
He added, however, that the command was yet to establish the particular point where the incident took place. Eguavoen said, “I cannot say exactly where it happened. I can’t say whether it happened in the part of Edo State or the part of Ondo State.
I have not been able to reach Ekiadolor and Okada Divisions to know whether it actually happened in Edo State or not. When I get the appropriate information, I shall inform you. Expect our update on the issue, at least, by Monday.”
According to the report, gunmen reportedly waylaid the woman, her daughter and their driver at gunpoint on the way to Benin. Sunday Mirror learnt that the kidnappers have not contacted the family to make any ransom demand.
The prevalence of kidnapping in Edo State has resulted in the increasing calls for a law that could either stop the menace or at best reduce the present high rate of kidnapping and killing of victims in spite of the concerted security surveillance in Edo State by both government and security agents.
