Bayelsa Insecurity Continues, As Pirates Rob 80 Boat Passengers.....Sahara Reporters

Suspected pirates at the weekend attacked and robbed no fewer than 80 boat passengers traveling along Sabatoru-Ibeta-Iwoma-Nembe water ways in Nembe local government area of Bayelsa State.

The passengers were on board about 10 speed boats heading to Nembe to attend the funeral of the mother of the former Speech Writer to then Governor Diepreye Alamieseigha, Nengi Ilagha, and were confronted by the pirates at about 4pm.

The pirates were said to have dispossessed the boat drivers of
their outboard engines and jerrycans of fuel, while the passengers were robbed of money, phones and other belongings.

One victim described the incident as worrisome and traumatic,
disclosing that they were held for over He said the pirates left
them stranded in the creek, taking away the outboard engines of their boats.

While thanking God there were no casualties during the incident, Loveday Herbert appealed to the state government and security agencies to step up their security strategies in the water ways in a bid to check the onslaught of the sea robbers.

A community leader and Chairman of Civil Liberties Organization, Chief Nengi James, lamented the frequent attacks of sea pirates in the water ways, describing it as “unbearable.”

The wave of pirate attacks in the water ways of the state has
triggered fear among boat drivers and passengers plying the
routes.
